Newcastle City Council secures £141.4m to build 966 social and affordable homes

Newcastle City Council is one of 33 organisations confirmed as strategic partners in a new government programme to build social and affordable homes across England. The council will receive £141.4m in grant funding to deliver 966 homes.

The funding comes through the Social and Affordable Homes Programme 2026 to 2036, a 10-year scheme run by Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency. The strategic partnerships cover England outside London.

Karbon Homes Limited is also among the confirmed partners, receiving £350m to deliver 2,533 homes. Other organisations on the list include Thirteen Housing Group, which is set to receive £349.2m for 2,750 homes, and Together Housing Association, allocated £326.6m for 3,200 homes.

The 33 strategic partners will work alongside other organisations funded through the programme's separate Continuous Market Engagement route. Homes England said the outcome reflects government priorities and aims to secure delivery and value from public investment.

Homes England chief executive Amy Rees said the level of demand for the funding "demonstrates the sector's ambition to deliver as part of this once-in-a-generation opportunity". She added that the agency was focused on working closely with partners, regional leaders, mayors and the wider sector "to ensure this investment supports the creation of high quality homes and thriving places that people want and need".
